I probably like Macklemore more than the average urban (read: black) hip hop fan. I don’t think his last album was better than Kendrick’s. All that said, he’s pretty consistent. Interesting guest appearances (Idris Elba, for 1). A couple songs are forgettable. All in all, for the hate this man gets, this is a rap album in 2016 with Grandmaster Caz, Melle Mel, KRS-One and DJ Premier on the tracks. I think it’s unfair to hate on him for culture appropriation. I do think it’s fair that he’s a decent rapper overall.
On the Riff Raff to Eminem scale, I’m giving this a 7 out of 10.
